ORLANDO, Fla. — A traffic stop in the Orlando area led to the arrest of a 55-year-old Black man after deputies uncovered illegal drugs and a firearm, authorities said.

According to law enforcement officials, Miguel Deshun Alvarez was taken into custody on Jan. 29, 2026, after deputies stopped a vehicle along a heavily traveled roadway. During a subsequent search, investigators allegedly recovered more than 10 ounces of fentanyl, approximately one pound of packaged marijuana, several dozens of prescription oxycodone pills, and a loaded handgun.

Authorities said Alvarez is a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He now faces multiple felony charges, including drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Investigators later determined that Alvarez was already out on bond at the time of the arrest in connection with similar offenses. He was formally booked on Feb. 4, 2026, on two outstanding out-of-county warrants stemming from prior cases. Officials confirmed that his bond status was revoked following the new arrest.

Law enforcement officials described the seizure as substantial, noting that the quantity and type of narcotics recovered posed a serious risk to public safety. Deputies involved in the stop were commended for their proactive actions, which authorities said prevented a significant amount of dangerous drugs from entering the community.

The case remains under review by prosecutors, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
